Tabata Workout Routine

The Tabata workout routine is a high intensity workout consisting of eight rounds of high-intensity exercises in a specific 20-seconds-on, 10-seconds-off interval. This workout makes use of bodyweight or free weights like kettlebells and dumbbells for the most intense 4-minute workout of your life.

Named after the doctor who invented it, Dr. Izumi Tabata, this workout offers maximum results with the least amount of time. Tabata was originally developed for Japanese Olympic athletes.

Crossfit Routine

Crossfit is an exercise regimen created by Greg Glassman incorporating elements of gymnastics, cardio, weights and other full body exercises. It gained popularity in 2007 by the movie, “300” in which the stars of the film gained their warrior physiques by practicing Crossfit.

Crossfit, unlike most boring gym programs, is a fast-paced fitness program that incorporates a variety of cardiovascular and strength exercises to develop your entire body. The routines are designed to help you burn more fats and calories at a shorter period of time unlike bodybuilding that requires you more hours to work on different body parts.

The most common exercises in Crossfit include skipping ropes, medicine ball push ups, flipping tires and hanging crunches – all aimed at losing body fat developing muscles.

Tabata and Crossfit: side by side comparison.

Tabata doesn’t require a gym membership or tons of expensive fitness equipments. In fact, you can workout from the comfort of your own home with little to no equipment.

The only thing you need is a timer, but that won’t even cost you anything since your average smartphone is already equipped with one. Tabata relies more on bodyweight exercises like push-ups, lunges, squats, and planks. Crossfit, on the other hand, requires a gym membership (which isn’t cheap, by the way). Depending on your location, a Crossfit gym membership would cost you anywhere between $100 – $250.

3. Fun Factor. For a lot of people, working out has to be fun for them to keep doing it. Who wants boring exercise routines, right? Here’s where Crossfit may have an edge over Tabata. Because Crossfit is primarily practiced in a gym with routines incorporating medicine balls, jump ropes and tires, it can be more enjoyable, especially considering the gym environment allows you to work and compete with more people.

It’s important to note, it all depends on how you approach and commit to your workout. No matter which program you choose, the results will boil down to your commitment. Also remember, yes exercise is paramount, but exercise alone can’t give you all the results you want.
